After listening to my fellow tablemates Major Writing Assignment #1 recordings I realized that we all had things in common with in our topics. Sally and I both choose a topic that was specific to our hometown. She chose to discuss a restaurant that is special to the Chicago area where I discussed a phrase special to St. Louis, but overall it was about our home towns. I also connected to Ryan’s Topic. He talked about his community of his hometown, Kirkwood, Missouri, which connected to my topic as well. Samuel’s topic was the only one I did not connect with simply due to the geographical basis. Samuel’s topic did not focus on his hometown but rather a group of religious individuals. Despite this his topic did connect to mine because it encompassed a religious group like mine did in a way. My community was made up of St. Louis citizens and how they use the phrase “Where did you go to high school?” In St. Louis, we have a huge Catholic High School presence, which allowed me to connect to Samuel’s topic because it has a religious base.
All of us at our table were able to connect in our topics because we all choose something that we found interesting or central to our selves. Throughout this project we all were able to show who we are in a more personal level with one another. From this project, we were able to introduce our communities to one another which has helped shape who we are today. I believe through our first Major Writing Assignment we all aimed to show something special about where we come from or a group we are a part of. After listening to Sally, Ryan, and Samuel’s MWA #1 recordings I learned a lot about them and where they come from, which I think was the goal of this project.
