Topic - MW2

The topic I have chosen for my major writing assignment number 2 is to ban smoking and to decrease the number of people smoking. Smoking has become a major issue in America because it affects almost everyone even if you are not the one smoking. Smoking is the leading cause to lung cancer and nearly 400,000 people die from smoking each year. Not only is smoking dangerous to the person smoking, but it is also dangerous to the people around the person who is smoking. People with asthma can have a reaction to people smoking and could end up in the hospital. Smoking is addictive, and we need to inform people who smoke about the dangers smoking can cause them, and others close to them.

I am calling to ban smoking and to decrease the number of people smoking. In order to do this, we need to inform people who smoke, and we need to teach children the dangers of it because now more than ever teenagers are becoming addictive to smoking and is increasing the death poll. Another way we can prevent smoking is to increase the price of cigarettes in order to decrease the number of people smoking. We can also make it difficult for people to buy cigarettes. I believe banning smoking and decreasing the number of people smoking will benefit our country because we as Americans will be more healthier and we would see a lot less homeless people.

I am calling for this action because I believe that smoking is dangerous, and something needs to be done to prevent it. I’m sure everyone has a story about someone smoking and the horrors of it or someone has seen a commercial about smoking. I want to be able to inform people about these dangers and what can be done to help because it is not just the smokers life in danger it is the people around them and their loved ones. By creating a way to decrease the number of smokers and ban smoking we can save lives. Many people smoke because they think it is cool, but is it still cool when your lungs stop working? If we can inform people we can make a difference in people’s lives. Overall, I am searching to end smoking and save the lives of many and to persuade to people to stop smoking. I am also hoping to persuade the government the dangers of smoking and hoping for them to change laws in order to prevent/ban smoking.
