My Most Difficult Assignment-Jimmy Helfrich

My idea of a difficult assignment is probably way different from the rest of the class because, due to medical reasons, I had to leave first semester of college, and because of this I have not really had any tough college assignments yet. Therefore, my toughest assignment comes from my sophomore year of high school in which I had to write a ten page paper analyzing various forms of art work, and doing research on the art work. This was a research paper because we were supposed to make an argument for what the piece actually meant rather than what we thought it meant. In other words, we were trying to determine the artists purpose for creating this piece.

The actual difficulty of this assignment did not come from the sheer length of it but determining the artist's purpose was. This is because it was very hard to find concrete evidence (as the assignment called for) because the whole point of art is for the audience's interpretation. Therefore, the artist's rarely release any sort of evidence that explains what their piece could mean. Meaning that finding one source was difficult enough let alone six.

Also, it was very hard to talk about pieces of art for an extended period of time. Since the paper had to be ten pages, it required you to analyze every aspect, color, and shape so that you could make the ten page minimum. In my rough drafts this is the main issue I had because I would start to repeat the same points because it was hard to come up with content.

Lastly, the main thing that really tripped me up in this assignment was the fact that it had such a specific format. What I mean by this is that we had to put every piece of artwork right in the middle of the paper as if it was a direct quote. Then we had to cite this artwork immediately after as apart of this paper, and it was just very confusing on the specific format.

Although this assignment was tough, it made me a better writer and student in the end because I was able to push through the difficulty and receive a good grade. I also leaned a lot about myself and my own ability to persevere in the toughest times because I was really struggling with this assignment at first. However, I never let my confidence falter too much to the point where the anxiety of the assignment crippled my ability to complete it. This made me realize that I can essentially conquer any assignment thrown my way no matter the difficulty. Therefore, I believe that my success will be guaranteed  this particular course.
