One visual medium that I feel would be impractical for my Rhetoric Project would be using a TV commercial. TV commercials, while very useful for appealing to a mass amount of people are extremely expensive. For this reason I would deem this visual medium impractical because I simply do not have the resources to make it possible. Another reason that it would be impractical for my rhetoric project is due to the length of my Rhetoric Project. My Rhetoric Project is almost three minutes long, and because of this, it would not be a very successful television commercial. TV commercials are meant to be short and to the point, to capture the viewers’ attention. To put it simply, my Rhetoric Project is far too long to be placed on the air to have any success. As well as the fact that, to have such a long commercial on the air, it would require a lot of money, something that I do not have.
All of these negatives set aside, I believe that a TV commercial could prove useful for my Rhetoric Project. If I were able to cut down my video to around 30 seconds and still get my point across, I would be able to use this visual medium much more proficiently. And added benefit would be that it would be much more cost effective to cut my Rhetoric Project down, as opposed to running a 3 minute long advertisement. Also, with running a television advertisement I get to pick my audience. Obviously running a Global Warming advertisement that proposes to phase out non-electric vehicles would not be very effective on a channel such as FOX News. However, with this I can pose my advertisement to an audience that would be more receptive. For this reason I believe that a television commercial could be useful, but not practical.
