Minor, Lee, Cattachio
Minor described his experience in manipulating the audience of Street Sharks, a 90s television show, by spreading the fabricated news about it and made up false characters, voice actors, episodes, plot descriptions, everything. In order to make people believe about these "facts," he focused on becoming editors of unreliable website like TVTome.com, a user-edited wiki for TV shows. And from TV Time.com, the fake news is spread onto other reviews on, IMDB, Amazon, and other sites. Minor realizes that people can be fed with manipulated information without being awareness and alert. He marked the problem that from the massive information in internets, the power to verify the truth of a lot of information and credibility is concerning. The screening process for websites editors must be monitored.
Lee demonstrated how the internet users using the "evidence" from the video, images, and "witness" from the Boston Bombing to catch who the terrorists are. However, thing goes terribly wrong because they ended up accusing innocent people. The suspects become "White Hat Black Jacket Guy, Blue Duffel Bag Guy and Green Hat Guy" (Lee). Internet users commented harshly and used pictures and slanders to spread their "investigative result." While all of them approved false, it hurt the innocent people because they were wronged by the public. It ruins their normal daily life because people recognize them as "terrorist" just by looking at uncredible internet inferences. He urges people to take responsibility when making a point on the internet because it's dangerous.
In Cattachio’s article, he focused on Twitter as a source where false information may spread. because there is really no negative impact of spreading false information, people make inferences and says whatever they want. Also, people believed in things because the information is supposedly from a reliable standpoint, for example, the "Top Tweet" section of Twitter in which most of the users can see the trending posts. However, the fact is that even there the information are not all necessarily true, these posts made to "Top Tweet" because of their popularity, not credibility. He discussed the debate that news companies should take a responsibility in monitoring or deleting fake information. And people should not take validity on everything on the internet.
