Minor, Lee, Catacchio

Minor
This article was about how an author created a cartoon series based off of lies. He based his cartoon off of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and changed a few things to make it new. Everyone believed everything that was being told to them. Minor brings attention to the idea that people tend to believe whatever they read on the internet without verifying the facts. Minor was able to fake episode summaries and websites such that it strengthened his work and made people and big companies believe him. He is saying that sources should have a background check to make sure of the facts.

Lee
This article was about criticizing the internet users and their role in accusing Sunil Tripathi of being the man behind the Boston Bombing. People began to make claims and jump to conclusions on social media before checking the facts. In the case of the bombing, people accused Tripathi of being the man behind it all based on his outer appearance. No one took the time to check the facts and wait for confirmation. He warns people to not believe anything on the internet because it may not be credible and could have severe consequences for people.

Catacchio
This article speaks about how people rely immediately on social media platforms for the news and major events, sources like Twitter, and believe what's being said before anything is confirmed. This is a problem because anyone can post anything and think of the story as true. It's something that can't be fixed because with having access to the internet in an instant people can say and do whatever they want, whenever they want no matter how inaccurate it is. But, larger companies can tweak their platforms such that the stories aren't misleading. For example, on Twitter, change the format such that trending topics are credible and not fluff.
