Minor: He writes about how he falsely published information about a former television show, “Street Sharks”. He found a website where public editors could post information about shows. He gained access to edit the page on “Street Sharks”. Here he put fake episode synopses down as well as fake characters. Minor proved how easy it is to publish false information on the internet. Many people took his words as truth simply because they read it on the internet.
Lee: Lee, like Minor, wrote in his article about how false information can be spread on the internet. Lee looked at a witch hunt that was sparked after photos and surveillance footage was released after the Boston marathon bombing. Back in 2013 there was a horrific terror attack that happened on the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Some were killed and many were severally injured. The police were having trouble finding who was responsible for the crime. Photos were released of the area before the bombing happened and there was one man everyone was suspicious of, Sunil Tripathi. He was in some of the photos from the location of the bombing. People of the internet started claiming he was the terrorist and due to this Tripathi was named responsible for the crime. Eventually the police figured out he had nothing to do with the crime but he was still put through all the drama of a false accusation.
Catacchio: Wrote about the false information that can spread due to social media platforms like Twitter. When a big event happens people often go to Twitter and speak about what happened before they get the facts. This causes people to believe the false information about a specific event. This causes conflict between what social media authors say happened and what the news sourced say happened. Catacchio understands that false information will be spread on social media no matter what but he suggests that Twitter should try and fix this. For example once the tweet is proven to have false or misleading information in it Twitter should no longer allow it to be retweeted.
