Video Changes
The project of editing a video was an entirely new experience for me. I had never compiled video, cut, mixed sound, and created transitions to create a seamless rhetoric project. My video was very broadly aimed and had no clear audience to speak of. Truth be told, since there was no rubric, I didn't give much thought to the structure of the video and the visual design. I chose generic transitions to go from shot to shot. All the text drops were very basic in the font and transition style. If I had more time to change the project, I would synthesize more clips of soccer from around the world. I would include American soccer players, especially from the women's national team since they are wildly more successful than the men's team. After adding more clips, I would use better music than the generic background theme from iMovie. I would have tried to actually incorporate the Macklemore and possibly some One Republic anthems to motivate during the footage. Additionally, the interview segments disowning soccer could have used some slow, boring music to mute the background noise of air conditioners. I think the main structural change I needed was to go into the editing booth and add some different stark text frames to express the tone of each video segments. Without text to describe the upcoming events, I think outsiders who view the footage will be confused by the narrative of the events. Soccer is a universal sport, but as I have mentioned, the American audience is generally unaware of the game. This project was certainly hard, but I could have done even better if I simply gave myself more time and laid out more specific goals. I am confident I can continue to make well produced videos.
