Introducing Myself

My name is Juliana Phillips. I was born on Christmas morning at 5:14am in Traverse City, Michigan to two loving parents and an older brother. Traverse City (about a 9 hour drive north of Saint Louis) is a pretty small town in Northern Michigan, and even though I've travelled to many other cities, TC will always remain my favorite. The winters are tough, but the summers on Lake Michigan beaches make up for it. I attended a Catholic school from kindergarten to graduation. My graduating class was 87 students, so coming from a small town and small school, to a big city and a fairly big school was a change that I had mixed emotions about.
I grew up in a very active family. My mother played collegiate basketball, and my brother wanted to do the same when he was old enough. So, naturally, I figured that that's what I should do too. Every since I could hold a ball, sports have been a huge part of my life, and I although I was encouraged to try as many different activities as I wanted to, basketball was always my vision for my future. Then my freshman year of high school, I made varsity for volleyball as well as basketball, and that's when my passion for volleyball took off. That, along with my passion for nursing, are what led me here to SLU.
I am so glad I chose SLU for earning my degree in nursing, and for playing volleyball. Although there have been many challenges even in one semester, I have learned a great deal about myself, my relationships I have, and about life itself.
