Is the United States Falling Behind in Women's Rights?
Purpose: The video I choose was about the differences between men and women in society. The video highlighted the differences in pay, presence in government, and presence in higher up positions in companies. The video also discussed how we are one of four countries in the world that do not guarantee paid maternity leave for mothers. The purpose of this video is to inform you of how despite the United States being such a strong and modern country we are still far behind other in women's rights. The video seeks to educate people on how women are treated unfairly and not held to the same level as men. They show this by how men are paid more than women as well as men holding more seats in congress.
Audience: The audience for this video is everyone in the world but especially women in the United States. This video is trying to have women as their target audience to encourage them to rise up against these injustices. I also think they included the beginning statements of how women in the United States do have some rights that other countries do not ensure to not make this video seem like it is not bashing men so some men would actually pay attention to it.
Context: The context of this video is in the United States and our society. The video was created by CNN and posted to Youtube to create an even larger audience for itself.
Text: The text of this video is the words they placed on the screen to help narrate the video. There is also graphs and visual aids that include text to help illustrate the percentages and statistics mentioned in the video. I believe these graphs were placed there to help make the inequality of genders very clear. I also believe the video included statistics and illustrations to help viewers understand the content and the drastic difference between how men and women are treated.
